The North-West Early Music Forum are having a workshop, on 26th of May for voices and invited instruments based on Antoine Brumel’s “Et ecce terrae motus” or “Earthquake Mass” at  St. Martin’s University of Cumbria, Bowerham Road, Lancaster. I’ve been familiar with this piece for some twenty five years and it’s not to be missed. For info check their web site or contact Clive Walkey walkley903@btinternet.com.

ULVERSTON INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL

 – TAKE PART!

Would you like to be part of an exciting community singing event within an international music festival singing alongside professionals?  If so, Ulverston International Music Festival, taking place from 7th-17th June 2017, invites you to be part of a large chorus singing in a concert on Thursday 8th June in Ulverston Parish Church.

The concert will feature Dvorak’s Mass in D, a much-loved work which will be learned during three day-long informal and friendly workshops in Ulverston.  These are all on Saturdays: 13th and 27th May and 3rd June.  You are asked to be able to attend at least two of these sessions and to pay a one-off  small contribution of £10 towards costs.  In addition, there will be a dress rehearsal on the afternoon of  the concert day.

Conducting us will be John Powell, well known as a prolific and celebrated choral conductor regularly heard on BBC radio.  Our soloists for the concert will be drawn from internationally acclaimed English Touring Opera and our accompanist is Adrian Self, organist of Cartmel Priory.

We are seeking singers with enthusiasm and commitment – which may involve a bit of learning at home in between the workshops.  Note-reading isn’t essential, but the ability to hold a tune is!  If you’re interested, please get in touch with Rowena Gibbons by emailing ulverstonmusicfestival@gmail.com or phoning 01908 367748.

Please get in touch by the end of March 2017 to register.

Ulverston International Music Festival dates are:

Saturday 21st April 10am – 4pm (workshops)

Saturday 5th May 10am - 4pm (workshops)

Sunday 3rd June 2pm - 5pm (workshops) (though possibly starting earlier or finishing later – an hour at most either side, but not both).

Festival  Choral Concert - Thursday 17th June at the Coronation Hall, Ulverston.
